Therapy for new parents & during pregnancy
I work with couples and individuals during pregnancy and postpartum.
Pregnancy and postpartum are all about reconnection; with your body, your partner, and building a relationship with this new human that has joined your lives!
The transition to parenthood is a time when leaning on your partner becomes more important, and is also the time that many couples tend to feel the most disconnected. But, it doesn’t have to look like this. Our work in perinatal couples therapy is about building a new kind of connection with your partner through communication and learning. I will also integrate my work and training as a sex therapist to support you in creating a healthy relationship with your body and to support you and your partner as you discover what sex and intimacy looks like as parents.
In sessions, we will discover the meaning pregnancy and parenthood hold for you and your partner, allowing space to learn more about yourself and each other. The real power of your connection shows up between sessions, so we will explore exercises and supports that allow you to feel connected to yourself and each other.
During pregnancy, we will work together to build your foundation and prepare your relationship for the transition to parenthood. This includes discussing your mental health and developing a care plan, identifying your village, and getting a jumpstart on identity exploration, communication and mindfulness practices to ensure your relationship is ready for parenthood.
For trauma survivors that have become parents, it is not uncommon for those effects to sneak back into your life, with many experiencing grief and a sense of loss around their own upbringing, and fear around how this will impact their parenting. This is where I really integrate my work as a trauma therapist to support you as you grieve and create something new for your parenthood journey.
This work is not just for couples, I work with individuals experiencing increased depression, anxiety, and the effects of trauma during pregnancy and postpartum. For individuals we will work on your own identity and how to stay grounded in yourself as you transition into parenthood, address mental health concerns, identify your village and ensure you are supported.
Together we will: Promote Healing
Engage in self-discovery
Define parenthood in a way that works for you
Integrate this new identity into the other parts of yourself
Practice staying in connection with each other
Building a relationship foundation you can carry through parenthood
Let’s stand together as you transition into parenthood, while remaining grounded in yourself and your partnership.
